The best thing about being a newborn photographer in Oxfordshire, is that we have such beautiful clean outdoor spaces on our doorstep. Rolling fields full of golden corn, gorgeous poppy fields, woodland that glow with the yellows, oranges and reds of Acer trees, and of course bluebell woods that still take my breath away every time I see them. During the Pandemic, I had to close up the studio for 3 long months, which was awful. Like so many millions of people, it affected my income and lifestyle and stopped me from doing something I loved. Oh how I missed those babies!

I am super happy to say that almost every single client postponed their session, and will now be coming back to the studio with their babies, even if they have passed that newborn stage, we can still get some wonderful images.

However, I had a few customers ask if there were any other options, and I’m now pleased to say that I am going to be offering outdoor newborn photography sessions. These are perfect if you don’t want posed style images, but want some special moments captured of you and your new family, and this time of year when the evening light is spectacular is the best time to start. You may well have heard the phrase ‘golden hour’ this is the last hour before sunset when the sun is low and spreads stunning golden light across the countryside. It’s the most flattering kind of light, it’s anti-ageing (and if you’ve been homeschooling I bet you need some of that), it provides a beautiful warm colour backdrop to your images, and stops bright squinty faces with super dark shadows (not nice for ladies).

These sessions will be super relaxed, and of course if baby needs feeding, we’ll stop, put the blanket down and give you plenty of time to feed. These are also wonderful if you have other little ones that may not want to be posed in a studio, and are at their happiest running around outdoors.

Of course, these are very much weather dependent, but as long as it’s dry and warm enough that baby is not going to get cold, then we’re good to go. We don’t need sunshine, in fact as I said above, bright sunshine is not a photographers friend.

There are some lovely parks locally that we can use for your outdoor newborn photography session, and places that I love to recommend, but if you have any ideas, I’m more than happy to travel.

As these are outdoor sessions, there won’t be a lot of props available, but if there is something specific that you like, let me know and I’ll bring it along.

I can offer guidance on clothing, what to bring and where to go, and will create a beautiful gallery of images that you will treasure as your little munchkin grows.

If you think an outdoor newborn session might be right for you, please do get in contact, either via my contact page, call me on 07876 135729 / 01491 200532 or email me via emma@studiobambino.co.uk. These don’t have to be limited to the first two weeks of baby’s life, and of course, there will be no masks needed 🙂

Have a look below at the recent session I did with Nikki and James and their beautiful baby girl Esme. Nikki and James first came to me with their first little girl Ayia and had booked in for a newborn session when Esme arrived. However, due to COVID, had to postpone! They were super gutted that they would miss out on those first precious weeks until I suggested we did an outdoor session. They were totally up for it, and we headed into Wallingford Castle Gardens for the evening and spent a lovely hour having fun and capturing their gorgeous family.
